fuchs plantohyd senvironmentally friendly hees hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils based on synthetic estersdiagram environmentally friendly hees hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils based on synthetic estersit has been recognized for a number of years now that the use of mineral oil-based lubricants poses certain environmental risks. leakages, emissions and spillages when handling hydraulic fluids lead to direct pollution of the surroundings and thus the environment. this fact led fuchs to develop rapidly biodegradable lubricants based on vegetable oils and synthetic esters.the plantohyd s series of oils are based on synthetic esters. they represent an environmentally friendly alternative to mineral oil-based hydraulic oils and can be classified as hees fluids according to iso/cd 6743-4. the advantages of plantohyd s are:

good demulsibility characteristics. applicable at tank temperatures ranging from - 35 °c to + 90 °cplantohyd s products are fully compatible with all materials usually found in hydraulic systems. the base fluids used in these products are non-toxic. the fluids are free of heavy metals and chlorinated compounds. application:plantohyd s hydraulic oils can be used universally in all hydraulic and general lubricating systems. they are suitable for all mobile and stationary hydraulic systems. these products should always be used whenever there is a danger of soil or water pollution following a leak or spillage. the greatest potential for such occurrences are in the construction, water, agricultural and forestry industries. approvals from a number of well-known manufacturers have been issued. the high viscosity index of plantohyd s products give them multigrade characteristics. we recommend that the miscibility and compatibility of these products with mineral oil-based hydraulic oils should be checked on a case-by-case basis. as stated in iso/cd eco, residual quantities of mineral oil should be kept to a minimum by flushing prior to refilling. compatible internal finishes on tanks should be selected. paint finishes which are not 2-part epoxy systems can display poor resistance to mineral oil as well as synthetic esters. in general, we recommend the use of stainless steel tanks. /free/ metals, e.g. tin from soldered joints or zinc from galvanized components should be avoided if possible. filter systems should also be compatible with synthetic ester fluids.the powerful cleaning effect of these fluids can dislodge large amounts of dirt and contaminants and this can, in turn, shorten the life of filters. system filters should be cleaned or changed after about the first week of use with plantohyd s. the iso/cd eco guidelines should also be observed. to maintain optimum reliability, any water which has collected in systems which have been shut-down for longer periods should be drained. water or moisture problems can be reduced if filtering or drying equipment is fitted to tank breathers. according to iso/cd eco, water content during use should be kept below 0.1 %. for iso vg 10 to 22 fluids elastomer compatibility tests should be performed. our application engineers will be glad to advise you on:
